FEE WAIVER INFORMATION

WHO QUALIFIES FOR APPLICATION FEE WAIVER?

Students who wish to apply to the University of Utah but for whom the application fee is a financial burden may request an application fee waiver.  You may qualify for a fee waiver based on, but not limited to, any of the following circumstances:

  • You have submitted a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and are eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant.
  • You have received or are eligible to receive an ACT or SAT testing fee waiver.
  • You are eligible to participate in the Federal Free or Reduced Price Lunch program (FRPL).
  • Your family's annual income falls within the Income Eligibility Guidelines set by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service.
  • You are enrolled in a federal, state, or local program that aids students from low-income families (e.g. TRIO programs such as Upward Bound).
  • Your family receives public assistance.
  • You live in federally subsidized public housing, a foster home, or are homeless.
  • You are a ward of the state or an orphan.
  • Vocational Rehabilitation or Veteran's Administration is paying part or all of your educational expenses.
  • Your familial circumstances make the application fee an excessive burden.

How to Apply for an Application Fee Waiver

  • You may submit documents in person at our office, by fax, mail, or email attachment via UMail account.
  • Once this documentation has been received and reviewed, an application fee waiver may be granted. Use our application tracker to track the status of your application fee.

Freshman Applicants:

Complete the top portion of the NACAC Freshman Fee Waiver Form and have an authorized school official such as a counselor or principal fill out the bottom portion.

You may also submit one of the following instead of the NACAC form:

  • Proof of government assistance such as food stamps, enrollment in a low-income assistance program like TRIO or Upward Bound, or eligibility for reduced-price school lunches.
  • A copy of your ACT or SAT testing fee waiver.
  • An official letter printed on letterhead from a school counselor, employer, or ecclesiastical leader attesting to your financial situation.

Non-Freshman Applicants:

If you are Pell Grant eligible:

Complete the first page of the NACAC Transfer Fee Waiver Form and have an authorized official such as a college counselor or financial aid representative complete the second page.  Alternatively, you may submit a PDF copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR).  You can retrieve the PDF by logging into your FAFSA account.

If you are not Pell Grant eligible:

Complete the first page of the NACAC Transfer Fee Waiver Form.  You must also submit supporting documentation, including but not limited to:

  • Proof of government assistance such as food stamps or enrollment in a low-income assistance program like TRIO or Upward Bound.
  • An official letter printed on letterhead from a school counselor, employer, or ecclesiastical leader attesting to your financial situation.
