About The scholarship
The Guarantee is for incoming freshmen from the state of Utah who hold the honor of being valedictorian or salutatorian of their high school graduating class.
Valedictorian - $8,000 annually for 4 years/$32,000 total
Salutatorian - $6,000 annually for 4 years/$24,000 total
Additionally, recipients will receive a one-time $1,000 award that may be used to further their academic pursuits such as study abroad, research, etc. This award will be available for students after they reach sophomore standing at the U and must be approved prior to disbursement.
*This scholarship cannot be combined with other university merit awards from the University Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid; if you qualify for more than one merit award, you will be given the one of greatest value.
WHO QUALIFIES?
- Resident of Utah;
- Admitted to the U as first-time, freshman pursuing their first bachelor’s degree;
- Valedictorian or Salutatorian;
- Graduate of a Utah public or private accredited high school.

These scholarship funds can be applied to tuition and mandatory fees only.
This year (fall 2022), students must apply for admission no later than February 1 to be considered for the Guarantee Scholarship. In future years, the deadline will be December 1.

The Office of Admissions has provided next steps to all high school counselors about how to report qualifying information for this scholarship. Guarantee Scholarships will be awarded in July.
For continued eligibility, students will need to be enrolled full-time for all eight semesters, maintain at least a 3.5 GPA at the University of Utah.
No. Home schooled students are ineligible for the Guarantee Scholarship.
The Guarantee Scholarship is only for student who have completed their high school program of study and graduated after January 1, 2022.
If you are valedictorian or salutatorian of your high school class, and graduated after January 1, 2022, and you decide to defer your enrollment directly out of high school you are eligible for the Guarantee Scholarship so long as you pay your enrollment deposit and have an approved deferment on file with the Office of Admissions.
